LDS Church News - BYU art treasury reaches century mark

In 1909, Brigham young University began collecting art when a particular supplier university a painting of a sycamore Utah impressionist painter John Hafen. One hundred years later, an anthology of Art University has grown to just 17,000 works housed in a state-of-the-art museum.

A new demo at the Museum of the University of Brigham Girlish Art celebrates a century of collecting art and legacy of the contribution that has enriched the sweetness of the university and the community since the first donation."The First 100 Years: art collections at BYU," says the piece of the evolution of art from the University Omnium Gatherum through the issuance of 150 works that were acquired in the past and forgotten century.

The exhibition, opened December 4, will be disclosed on vital level of the museum through, Sept. 25, 2010. Entr is unlimited.

"This significant achievement was made possible thanks to the loyalty of many university officials, authorization and stick with the generosity of many donors," said Paul Anderson, the museum of art curator.

While BYU has acquired its first painting in 1909, the standard collection began in the 1930s and 1940s when members of the authorization and administrators embraced the importance of art collections for disaster. Art School through pivotal paintings and works on the original record acquired by several artists of the 20th century and Utah. In 1937, Herald R. Clark, dean of the College of Duty, visited the famous Western artist Maynard Dixon's studio in San Francisco and has negotiated the acquisition of 85 paintings, drawings and engravings.

In 1959, 50 years after the first painting was noted at the university, more than 10,000 works of art came to BYU in an alliance of reform. These species now works as the essence of the Museum of Art's treasure have been partly a talent and partly a purchase from the heirs of the artist Mahonri Mackintosh Innocent. These works have mainly determined the functioning of critical collection of the Museum of American Art....
